Cadet Awards: End of Year 2023

In recognition for outstanding achievement and performance of duty, the President of Southern Preparatory Academy, LTC Jared Norrell, approves the presentation of the following awards to the following cadets:


Commandant’s Award: Cadet Battalion S-1 Sean Turner from Niceville, FL
The Commandant’s Award is given to the cadet who consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership for the entire school year.

Outstanding Company Commander Award: Echo. Company Commander Cadet Nathan Harby from Hoover, AL
The Outstanding Company Commander Award is awarded to the cadet who has demonstrated great strength of character and outstanding qualities of leadership in controlling and handling a cadet company.

NCO of the Year Award: Cadet First Sergeant Jason Lovil from Tupelo, MS
 The NCO of the Year Award is presented to the top non-commissioned officer for demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities, loyalty to the academy, dependability, and good citizenship for the entire school year.

New Cadet of the Year Award: Cadet David Smith from Gardendale, AL
The New Cadet of the Year Award is presented to a first-year cadet who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, academic achievement, and strength of character for the entire school year.

Foreign Student of the Year Award: Cadet Javier Carrera from San Angel, Guatemala
The foreign student award is presented to the foreign student that has best exemplifies the Academy’s triad of excellence in academics, leadership, and athletics.

JROTC Academic Award:
LET I Cadet Sean Turner

LET II Cadet Jacob Zamora
LET III Cadet Jakob Taylor
LET IV Cadet Wei Leong Tham

The JROTC Academic Award is awarded annually to one cadet in each Leadership, Education, & Training (LET) level with the highest GPA for the school year.

The JROTC Leadership Award is awarded annually to one cadet in each Leadership, Education, & Training (LET) who displays the highest degree of leadership for the school year.
