Honoring Exceptional Service: 2024 Recipients of the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service

The President’s Medal for Meritorious Service recognizes individuals who exceed expectations in supporting the academy’s mission. This past Military Day, we proudly presented four outstanding individuals with this prestigious award.

1. Mr. Jeremy Farber

Jeremy Farber’s journey with the academy began in 1989 when he joined Foxtrot Company as a 6th grader. Over the next seven years, he exemplified character, leadership, and integrity, eventually serving as Battalion Commander his senior year before graduating with the class of 1995. Continuing his education at The Citadel, Jeremy later became a successful entrepreneur and a dedicated member of the Academy’s Board of Trustees. His disciplined leadership, visionary guidance, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in shaping the academy’s trajectory. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Jeremy for his tireless dedication.

2. Mr. Paul Tate

Paul Tate’s impact transcends generations. As an English and drama teacher from 1965 to 1983, he provided cadets with a creative outlet through school plays and musicals. Beyond the classroom, his work in Public Relations and dedication to documenting the school’s history have been invaluable. Paul’s influence has inspired countless individuals, instilling in them a lifelong love of learning. His unwavering support for the academy and its alumni demonstrates his commitment to a mission greater than himself.

3. 1SGT Lee Kolb

1SGT Lee Kolb’s dedication to service is unparalleled. Over 24 years of molding minds and character, he has been a beacon of citizenship and service through the JROTC program. His leadership extends beyond the classroom, exemplified by his commitment to the Rifle Range and marksmanship instruction. 1SGT Kolb’s steadfast presence on campus and willingness to assist anyone in need have left an indelible mark on the academy community.

4. Major Steve Mayer

Major Steve Mayer’s tenure as Commandant has been marked by dedication, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the academy’s mission. With a distinguished military career and extensive experience in military boarding schools, Major Mayer has shaped the lives of countless young men. His love for animals, particularly dogs, has not only enriched the lives of our cadets but also taught invaluable lessons in compassion and responsibility. As Major Mayer prepares for retirement, we reflect on his profound impact and express our gratitude for his service to the academy.
