Last Wednesday, for the first time in academy history, a cross country state championship was brought home to Camp Hill. In 2017, the Rangers were the first runners-up. Diego Garcia ran the Kiesel Park course in 20:24 to take third place in the Alabama Independent School Association’s state cross country meet and help his Southern Prep Rangers win the championship. Elijah Smith was not far behind Garcia, finishing the course a mere 6 seconds later at fourth place. Inclement weather delayed the start of the race by 2 hours, but the team didn’t let it shake them from their goal. They persevered, running through moderate rainfall, and finished victoriously! Their impressive run times are a testament to the determination and grit of this Ranger team. Luca Lopez placed seventh, finishing at 21:04; Hunter Starzyk and Noah Lamer finished the race in ninth and tenth places, finishing the race at 21:07 and 21:17, respectively. Other run times are as follows: in 12th, Jay Stewart, at 22:22; in 15th, Javier Carrera, at 23:07; in 16th, Henry Reyes, at 23:14; in 17th, Gabriel del Valle, at 23:33; in 19th, Gavin Lane, at 24:01; in 21st, Piero Torres, at 24:12; in 22nd, Malachi Tucker, at 24:28; in 24th, Henry Peatman, at 24:39; in 26th, Baily Luken, at 25:56; and in 30th, Sebastian Gramajo, at 29:48. |
