Academic Affairs

Our academy is designed to provide your son with a focus on him as an individual, providing him with the right classes, support systems, and structure he needs to succeed, thrive, and ultimately graduate from our program with the tools he needs to face life head-on.

Yes. We are partnered with Southern Union State Community College, Central Alabama Community College, and Sophia, a part of ACE CREDIT through Edgenuity. 

Southern Union and Central Alabama’s average cost is $350.00 for three (3) credit course. Sophia’s average cost is $325.00 to $500.00 per course.

No, we do not offer an Advanced Placement courses, however, we do recognize completed AP courses from your son’s previous school. 

We offer ACT/SAT prep courses, supervised evening study hall, and individual teacher tutoring. Twice a week, the Academic Dean offers additional tutoring sessions in the library. 

Out of our 12 instructors, 7 of them hold advanced degrees. 

Cadet Life

Yes. Southern Prep is a fully accredited Army JROTC School.

Southern Prep has a liberal weekend pass policy. As long as a cadet is academically qualified (passing all courses with a grade of 70% or higher) and is not on any Punishment Order, he is eligible for a weekend pass. 

Leadership is taught each and everyday at Southern Prep by qualified TAC Officers and other members of our faculty. A more formal Character Development Program is being developed and will be taught by the Commandant of Cadets and other members of the Military Department.

We are a non-denominational school, where cadets of all faiths are welcome. 

No. Upon graduation, 90% of our students go on to attend a two- or four-year college or join the workforce. Only 10% go on to enlist in the military. 

No! Though we are a military academy, we are not an institution for “bad” kids. We are still the same as any other college prep boarding school…but better! We provide students with the discipline and structure needed for focus, self-reliance, and success. Beyond our strong academic program, our military traditions teach students how to become distinguished citizens and confident leaders.

Athletics and Extracurriculars

We offer football, wrestling, basketball, cross country, baseball, soccer, track and field, and golf.

We offer Drill Team, Sword Drill, Pathfinders, Beta Club, Scholar’s Bowl, Rifle Team, and Color Guard to name a few.

We are in Region 6 of the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA).

Financial Considerations

Fees not included are spending money, special medical care beyond facilities of the infirmary, driver’s education, flying lessons, athletic participation, or willful destruction of property. 

Financial aid is offered through in-house discounts, such as: Active/Retired Military; First Responders; Ministers; Single Parents; Alumni/Siblings; and, Airline Employees.

Tuition loan programs, such as Your Tuition Solution, provide many families in making tuition payments more affordable by providing the funds upfront and spreading payments over a longer period of time.

We offer three (3) payment options: Payment in Full; Semester Payments; and, 10 Monthly Payments. With our semester and monthly payment plans, there are some upfront fees due on or before the day of check-in.
